OUT & ABOUT IN THE COMMUNITY
Provident is proud to be part of the communities it serves by taking part in or being a sponsor for these worthwhile events:
Provident remembers
On September 11, Provident joined with millions across the nation commemorating the events from one year ago. Bank volunteers handed out water and energy drinks to the runners and walkers of the "Run to Remember" Race at Baltimores Inner Harbor. All benefits from the Race were donated to the Baltimore Police Foundation and the Fire Department. Throughout Provident branches and offices, all employees observed a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. coinciding with the moment the first hijacked airplane struck the World Trade Center, and wore an American flag pin to honor the country.
Columbia Festival of the Arts
On Fathers Day, June 16, Provident employees left their homes and headed for Columbia, Maryland, to help kids who wanted to paint a Bank-sponsored 28-ft. Star Spangled Celebration mural at the Columbia Festival of the Arts. Music and art from around the world were highlighted during this annual event.
Strathmore Halls Backyard Theatre Summer Productions
For the fifth year, Provident sponsored the Backyard Theatre out-reach program for children put on by the Strathmore Hall Arts Center in Rockville, Maryland. More than one thousand children ages 4 to 9 enjoyed themselves during the outdoor live performances that ran the gamut from jugglers to Irish dancers and natural science shows.
The PSP Symposium
During a symposium in mid-May, families, caregivers and guests received the most current news on patient care, research, caregiver support and other pertinent information about the devastating disease Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Provident presented a $6,000 sponsorship check to the PSP board during a dinner. Provident is also lending its support to a Regional PSP Awareness Walk that is being held on October 26 in Westminster, Maryland.
Sandtown Habitat for Humanity
For the tenth year in a row, Provident employees lent a hand and helped rehab a house on June 27 in the Sandtown/Winchester neighborhood of Baltimore City. The partnership Provident has with Sandtown dates back to the 1992 Jimmy Carter Work Project in Baltimore.
Dragon Boat Race
On September 14, Baltimores Inner Harbor took on a whole new aura when the Associated Catholic Charities Dragon Boat Race began. Teams of participants from local companies raced against one another and tried to keep their boats upright. This is the third time Provident employees have been a part of the unusual-looking, but fun-to-watch race. Money raised from this event was given to My Sisters Place, a safe haven for homeless women and their children.
Teeing off for Charity
For the fifth year, Provident Banks Community Lending Department supported Housing Charities, Inc., a Montgomery County based non-profit volunteer organization, as a gold sponsor of its Annual Golf Classic. HCIs mission is to promote education and financially assist and enable home ownership for low- and moderate-income first-time homebuyers.
